I've tried eating fruit for dessert instead of other things, but all I crave is cookies and bread and butter, and ice cream. It's not the weight I'm trying to lose, I'm just trying to get healthy so I'll have more energy.
I need to stop eating so many bad carbs. How do I get the satisfaction without the bad stuff?
I had the same problem a couple years ago. It turns out I had a thyroid problem and carbs were really the only way my body could get enough calories to burn in a day. A simple blood test will tell your doctor if your thyroid levels are normal.
Try eating things that are filling and protein in them like beans. Rice is another good main ingredient for dinner. You might not even miss the carbs once you stop giving into the cravings - I never did. Another good idea - buy those mini candy bars - eat just one, that might be enough to satisfy your craving for something sweet, but you don't have to go overboard.
