From earliest childhood we're cautioned about keeping our "private parts" private (usually starting from the first time, aged 3 or 4, that we bolt out of the house, naked, to visit the neighbors). :-)





So nakedness is naughty. Touching yourself "down there" is out of the question. Which takes us to the "show me yours and I'll show you mine/playing doctor" stage (which lasts, in effect, our sexual lifetimes--we just become better doctors)!
