Why is it that I get such satisfaction out of slot machines?

It's crazy, I could sit (literally) for 12 hours and play if I had the chance (which I don't). I gamble once in awhile, however, when I do, I find it very comforting. It gives me a "warm fuzzy". I hyper-focus and don't even know what is going on around me. Does anyone know why this is? Does it make any sense at all? I take adderall 40 mg. every day. Could this have something to do with it?

Why is it that I get such satisfaction out of slot machines?
The fact that you take Adderall suggests that you are being treated for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). People with this disorder are highly susceptible to the allure of gambling and other addictions. Gambling and other addictions have the quality of giving immediate reinforcement, that at the moment feels like positive reinforcement, but actually any feedback that is immediate if sought by people with ADD/ADHD. The second factor that adds to the allure and hook of gambling is that there is partial random reinforcement which strengthens any behavior and has a strong hold. Partial reinforcement, and random can be the worst form, keeps people performing the behavior because the person feels he is going to get a payoff, he just does not know when, he just has to keep up the behavior. Unfortunately, the person rarely keeps track of the cost of the behavior. The percent payoff of gambling is precisely calculated to keep the behavior going.

win. Even anticipating the win can give you that warm, fuzzy feeling.





This is the precursor to a gambling addiction.





It has to start somewhere, and your race has just begun.





Be careful, and limit the amount you spend on your newfound entertainment. Never spend more than you can afford to lose.

No, the Adderal has nothing to do with your enjoyment or the amount of enjoyment slots provide to you.





Mostly everyone likes to throw some money into the machine and see what happens because there is always the statement of "You just never know.





Do you have an addicting personality?





I do and I was in Vegas once, had never gambled before sat down and had the same feelings you describe. A bomb could have went off and I would not have noticed or moved. My husband at the time pulled me away but as we walked thru the casino, man I HAD to put money in each machine I went by.





I tried the roullette table, that was fun and I had the same feeling as the slots and at both places I had no idea how to play any of the games.





I actually realized that the 2 times my husband tried to get me away from both games, I became angry. I didn't like that I felt that way and realized at that point that since I have an addicting personality, and it really showed its ugly face and leaving the roullette table is the exact time I realized that.





So for the next 3 days (and we had aonly arrived a few hours before thisd revelation I had) I tried to avoid all gambling. Hard to do there, but I was able to do it, thank goodness.





So everyone or mostly everyone gets some kind of enjoyment out of playing slots, come on - its fun but when that warm comfy cozy, warm and fuzzy feeling is more that just having a little fun, then you need to be careful. And yes, I think sitting there at the slots for literally 12 hours straight is excessive. but I also understand how the time flies because the fun is fantastic.





Please just think about it, become aware of yourself, and then try your best to handle it appropriately.

Reply:You enjoy it because you get a thrill out of gambling. You like the unpredictability of it. That's prefectly normal alot of people do.
Reply:Everything about modern slot machines are designed to draw you in psychologically, since you don't do it often its not a problem, but may be a sign of a gambling problem. The adderall is generally used to treat ADHD and the like, and help people with those disorders focus so of course that makes the design of the slot machines all that more effective. Psychology in hand with psychology your definitely going to be satisfied but what it offers
Reply:It's the possibility of pay off; the chance that you will hit the jackpot.
Reply:You might also want to think about making an appt. to see a therapist. You could be using the gambling to fill in some void in your life, or be using it to not have to deal with stressors in your life. Gambling for that long of a time is an escape, so you need to find out what you are "escaping" from. I don't think the adderal has anything to do with it. If anything, it shows that it's working because if you have ADD or ADHD, without the adderall, you probably wouldn't be able to focus for that long.
